Making a difference in Dinas Powys

United Welsh organised a community clean-up event in Dinas Powys to give people a helping hand with managing waste ahead of the firebreak lockdown.

To help make the Caerleon Road area spick and span once more, United Welsh paid for 15 skips across five locations for a two-week period, with our Neighbourhood team helping neighbours to fill the skips.

Making the community a nicer, safer place to live, the skip donation meant fly-tipping was removed and people could take the opportunity to get rid of unwanted household goods like old or broken furniture.

Craig Singler, Senior Neighbourhood Officer for United Welsh said: “During lockdown, many people staying home used the opportunity to redecorate and make home improvements.

“This leads to an increase in household waste and with other waste services affected by the pandemic, we wanted to help.

“It was great to see lots of people making use of the donated skips and taking the opportunity to talk to us about other services too. I hope residents are pleased with the results.”

The community clean-up was the latest United Welsh partnership initiative in Dinas Powys.

As well as working alongside people living in the Caerleon Road area, in recent months United Welsh has teamed up with Vale of Glamorgan Council and the South Wales Police local neighbourhood policing team to support families and make community improvements.

Throughout the summer, United Welsh worked with the council’s Sports and Play team to deliver open access sports and play sessions to children, and in September, a CCTV camera was installed with community safety partners on Caerleon Road to help tackle anti-social behaviour.
