Overview

The United Welsh development of the former Trelai Community Centre was allocated a £300,000 grant from the Innovative Housing Programme and created nine state-of-the-art energy efficient apartments.

The £1.2 million-pound development in west Cardiff included six one-bedroom and three two-bedroom apartments, all making use of sustainable energy.

The development included:

  • A large ground-source heat pump to harness naturally occurring ground heat to power the radiators and hot water, removing the need for traditional boilers which deplete natural gas reserves.
  • Photo Voltaic (PV) panels to power communal electricity and harness solar heat to enhance the ground source heat pump supply to each property

United Welsh worked in partnership with Cardiff Council and M&J Cosgrove Ltd to bring the much-needed homes to Cardiff.

With the innovative heating methods used at each property, the residents are being supported to keep their energy bills as low as possible while also looking after the environment.
