Development
Built at the site of the former Ty Yn Y Pwll pub on Newport Road, development work to build the new homes for older people is now complete.
Ty Yn Y Pwll includes one and two-bedroom apartments for people aged over 55, with communal social space on the ground floor.
The new apartments have all achieved an energy efficiency rating of EPC A, meaning they are insulated to the highest standard and will cost less for residents to heat.
Richard Mann, Group Chief Executive of United Welsh said:
“It was a pleasure to welcome Caerphilly Council and Bedwas, Trethomas and Machen Community Councillors to visit the new homes at Ty Yn Y Pyll.
“It is really positive to see the site of the old derelict pub building transformed into much-needed new homes for older people, as well as communal spaces for community partnerships to flourish.
“After collaborating with the council and Pendragon Design and Build Ltd to bring the development to life, we are now looking forward to residents moving in.”
The new residents at Ty Yn Y Pwll will be supported by United Welsh’s Living Well team, who manage specialist homes and services for older people.
Cllr Shayne Cook, Caerphilly Council’s Cabinet Member for Housing, added:
“Working with our partners, like United Welsh, to deliver high quality affordable housing is a key commitment for the Council. Transforming empty buildings and bringing them back into beneficial use is another key aim for us and this development is a perfect example of this being put into practice.”
Thank you to Cllr Liz Aldworth, Cllr Jill Winslade, Cllr Kev Ingram and Cllr Nigel Bull for joining us.
